As we all try to navigate a COVID-19 world, there is one thing at the forefront of everyone’s minds: keeping people safe. Temperature detection is just one way that can be accomplished. But, manually checking your staff and building visitors eats into your efficiency. Instead, improve your diagnostic screening efforts through the use of Highly Accurate Thermal (HAT) Cameras.
HAT cameras are sophisticated systems engineered for efficient, contactless
temperature screening. However, these cameras do have
a much more limited field of view than a normal security camera, which impacts their installation and
application requirements. Stationary HAT cameras must be installed at a height of
approximately 7-9 feet. This can be
accomplished by mounting on a wall, ceiling, or by using a commercial tripod. The camera requires a nearby power outlet and connects to a laptop using an
ethernet cord, with free viewing software installed on the laptop for
management of the system. There is also a handheld camera available for certain screening situations.
To keep their employees and visitors safe and to limit their
own liability, there are several concerns and procedures
that the end user must consider when using these cameras or any other temperature
testing equipment. HAT cameras are intended to be an initial, level one screening device. While the cameras can scan up to 30 people at once, the FDA requirement is to scan people one at a time. We also suggest having a queuing area for people to wait in
line for screening. This is especially important when
they are coming in from outside and it is extremely hot or cold out; outdoor
temperature can have a big impact on skin temperature. It is also important not to position the camera in front of a heat source, such as the sun coming through a window or door.
